Changes to Controlled Drug Prescriptions
To improve patient safety and ensure a fair and consistent service, the practice is changing the way repeat controlled drug prescriptions are processed.
From 1 July, repeat controlled drug prescriptions will normally be issued on or after their due date. Requests made up to 7 days before the due date can still be submitted, but they will be held and processed when the prescription becomes due.
This change applies to medications such as strong painkillers, sleeping tablets, ADHD medications, and certain anxiety medications.
Please note:
• Requests can still be submitted up to 7 days in advance.
• Submitting a request early does not mean the prescription will be issued early.
• Early supplies will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and may require review by a clinician.
• Please allow sufficient time for the practice to process your prescription once it becomes due.
• Practice policy is not to replace lost or stolen controlled drug prescriptions or medication.
If you believe you have a specific reason why your medication may be needed before the due date, please let us know when making your request.
This is a change to our previous prescribing process. We appreciate your patience and understanding while the new system is introduced.
